| Project Scope: |
Basement Home Theater with additional zone of Whole House Audio. |

3 weeks |
| When George and Theresa D. decided to renovate their basement, they envisioned a fun, inviting environment inside a space that would be multi-functional, incorporating several entertainment options including a bar, billiards, and home theater. “We wanted to create a space that could accommodate our friends. Teresa and I frequently have guests over, as well as host “theme” parties, and we wanted to create an inviting environment that would complement this venue”, says George. |
| After agreeing on a Caribbean-themed decor, complete with Tiki bar, they turned their attention to technology. George and Teresa are big music fans with a sizeable CD collection they wanted to be able to enjoy at the bar. Of greater importance however was the home theater, sure to become the technological focal point of the new space. They realized the room’s basement locaation was perfectly suited to a projector/filmscreen combination with which they planned to view DVD’s and the latest high definition Cable TV programming. |

| Site Developer Don Anderson wanted to ensure that the equipment remained virtually invisible given the unique themed decor of the room. As a result, all components and media are stored out of sight in a closet at the front of the room. Additionally, the room’s entire complement of loudspeakers are either in wall or in ceiling, which keeps visual clutter to a minimum. An additional zone was added to their existing multiroom audio system serving the Tiki bar area with a pair of Sonance 622TR in-ceiling loudspeakers. Anderson used Sonance Symphony 623T in-wall speakers for the home theater’s front LCR channels and a pair of Sonance SRS-1 in-ceiling speakers for the rear channels. A Definitive Technology IWSub in-wall subwoofer is paired with a SubAmp600 and provides plenty of low end for the most demanding soundtracks. On the visual side, a Sim2 Domino30 projector illuminates a 76” Stewart Greyhawk filmscreen. System audio is handled by a Denon AVR-3806. The entire system is controlled by a Universal MX-850 remote control. Additional components included a Denon DVD-1920 DVD player as well as a Panamax noise filtration system. |
| Since the room’s completion, George & Teresa have enjoyed the theater tremendously and regularly view films as a family and with friends. Adds George, “watching the Sox and Pats in high definition on the big screen is like being there!” The new theater and multiroom audio addition “has provided an almost built-in ‘being on vacation’ feel. Prior to finishing the basement when we would go out we would choose places that most people frequent: a bar or the movies. Now we have all that here in our own home!” |
